Definition: A subjective, sometimes unattainable, numerical representation of the amount of products a salesperson is expected to sell in a specific period of time. Used as an excuse for why sales professionals can’t take a day off in toxic cultures.
In a healthy sales culture, quotas are set in a win-win where units/revenue are a realistic target for a reasonably talented sales person who is following best practices. Exception sales people can generally crush quotas.
Use It In a Sentence: I would love to take a day off, but unfortunately, my boss is using the quota as an excuse to keep me chained to my desk.
