What is Top-of-Funnel?

Definition: The top of the funnel (TOFU) is the first stage in the buyer’s journey. At this stage, potential customers are just becoming aware of a brand or product. They may have a general interest but are still gathering information. The goal at this point is to attract attention, educate, and generate leads. Content in the TOFU stage is typically broad and informational, designed to provide value without being overly promotional. Examples include blog posts, social media content, eBooks, and webinars.

Example in a Sentence: By offering a free eBook at the top of the funnel, the company attracted a large number of leads interested in learning more about its services.
